How It’s Skiing

  • It’s not really skiing. There’s simply not enough snow.

  • Most Tahoe resorts are open in name only. Mt Rose has the most open terrain but even then is quite limited.

  • Conditions including high temperatures and high humidity have limited both natural snowfall and resort snowmaking. We’re stuck in this pattern for the foreseeable future.

💡 Pro Tip

NOAA outlooks are a great resource for planning ahead (most forecasting services are based on the same underlying data). Forecasts beyond 10 days generally venture into voodoo-land.

🧭 From the Field

  • [12/6 Carson Pass] Thin coverage by Elephant’s Back (typically gets a lot of snowfall) - hike not ski conditions. Mostly breakable melt-freeze crust where there is snow. [Sierra Avalanche Center]

  • [12/6 Mammoth] By no means hero conditions, but much better coverage and decent hard-pack skiing for our East-side Mammoth friends. [Reddit]

🗓 Next Up

  • Not much. The earliest we expect a break in the pattern is December 19. Hold tight and pray for snow.

Happy turns (soon),
